Overfertilizing

Explains that overfertilizing lawns wastes money, hurts grass, and pollutes our waterways and reservoirs by feeding problem-causing algae. These problems can be prevented if folks find out what kind of grass they have and how to care for it, don't fertilize if heavy rain is forecast, and NEVER leave fertilizer on driveways or sidewalks. CWEP with Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission footage Spring 2009, Spring 2010

Buffer Improvement

A friendly older neighbor instructs his ambitious friend on how to do less yard work and help the environment by growing trees between his yard and the creek. Called a "stream buffer," these strips of plants and trees prevent pollutants from entering the creek and help the creek carry water without eroding. Original CWEP production Spring 2007, Fall 2007

AWARENESS

Johnny Fishpatrick

A friendly fish delivers the water pollution contributed by an average family back to their doorstep: pesticides, motor oil, fertilizers, etc. and reminds them that gutters carry runoff directly and without treatment into local streams. NC DENR Spring 2007, Fall 2007, Spring 2009

AWARENESS

Rubber Ducky

Shows different sources of stormwater pollution (such as litter, dog poop, and motor oil) turning into rubber duckies and flowing into waterways. They gather in larger and larger numbers until there are large patches of them floating in the ocean. Illustrates how stormwater becomes a problem because sources are so numerous and so widespread. Grass & Leaves

Two 15-second “bookend” spots, one showing lawn clippings being blown and the other showing leaves being raked. Message is that lawn clippings and leaves should not be raked into storm drains. Video footage from City of Charlotte, NC, Storm Water Services, with permission. Audio portion is original CWEP material. Fall 2005

Fertilizer

Shows a man walking over water dropping fertilizer beads. The spot makes the point that anything we put on the ground eventually ends up in our water. Adapted from State of Washington Department of Ecology, with permission (CWEP customized tag) Spring 2005
